Privacy Policy
Last updated October 8, 2026. Synonym Showdown is a free word game. We collect as little as we can.
Playing as a guest
You can play without an account. Your settings, personal bests, chosen face and daily results are saved only in your own browser (local storage). Online, other players in your room see the name and face you choose.
If you create an account
We store your username, a securely hashed password (never the password itself), your avatar, and your game results: rating, points, games played and match history. We don’t ask for your email, real name, age or location. Please don’t use your real name as your username.
Signing in sets one cookie that keeps you logged in. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
Fair play
To catch cheating, the game records how each word was entered during play: timing, whether it was typed or pasted, and whether you’re on a touch device. This is used only to spot play that isn’t humanly possible, and is never sold or shared. Words you report with “Disagree?” are stored to improve the word list.
Technical data
The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes requests (including IP addresses) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We store only a scrambled version of IP addresses, for rate limits, and delete those records within a day.
Children
The game is suitable for all ages and has no free-text chat (only emoji reactions). We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children; accounts need only a username and password.
Your choices
To delete your account and its data, or to ask anything about privacy, email hello@synonymshowdown.com from your account’s username.
